Purpose of the Position

The Regional Farmers Market Coordinator will be responsible for developing community partnerships, leading outreach efforts, and helping improve access to community services and other resources related to regional farmers markets and the local food system.  This is an essential position that assists in the implementation of goals and objectives within the community Health Plan and will primarily be working out in the community with specific populations and partners. The position will establish and support a Central Wisconsin Farmers Market Collaborative (including Stevens Point, Marshfield, Wausau, Waupaca, Adams-Friendship, and Wisconsin Rapids).  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Engage farmers, market managers, and vendors, assess needs related to skill training, and provide educational, technical, and professional assistance and guidance. 
2. Ensure that working relationships are well maintained with all farmers, market managers, and partners, including academic institutions.
3. Through planned, structured regional meetings, provide strategies and techniques to implement at markets.
4. Work collaboratively with market managers to create a coordinated system for a variety of monetary transaction methods.
5. Use listening, interviewing, and problem solving techniques with farmers, market managers, and consumers.
6. Support the planning and delivery of farmers’ market programs to increase accessibility to locally grown food.
7. Assist in the delivery of education programs to farmers, market managers, and other partner Organizations within Central Wisconsin.
8. Conduct on-site visits to farmers markets to provide the necessary technical assistance and guidance to help increase capacity to accept multiple types of transaction activity.
9. Gather and compile data at farmers markets; maintain a database for tracking pertinent information for grant reporting and accountability. 
10. Work with farmers markets to develop plans to create a sustainable operation.
11. Promote community action and garner support and resources from community organizations to implement new activities. 
12. Act as a liaison between the Wood County Health Department and regional community agencies to facilitate communication and coordinate programming related to farmers markets and local food systems. 
13. Effectively work with people (staff, clients, doctors, agencies, etc.) from diverse backgrounds in reducing cultural and socio-economic barriers between residents, institutions, and programming.  
14. Convey the purposes and services of a program to the specified population and the impact that program or service would have.
15. Establish positive, supportive relationships with partners and seek feedback. 
16. Document activities and results in an effective manner while strictly adhering to the policies and procedures in place.
17. Be knowledgeable about community resources appropriate to specific population needs. 
18. Continuously expand knowledge and understanding of community resources, services and programs provided. 
19. Understand performance management and program performance measures, and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
20. Report and evaluate efforts of collaborative in partnership with Farm2Facts through University of Wisconsin Madison.
21. Maintain inventory of supplies as needed.
22. Assist with set up and clean-up as needed for scheduled events and initiatives. 
23. This position will require availability on weekdays to include evening hours, as well as weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Other Duties 
1. Participates in improving agency performance, processes, programs, and interventions through continuous quality improvement.
2. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued. 
3. Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
4. Reports to work as called in 24/7 in a public health crisis or emergency and performs public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with training provided.
5. Participate as part of the Incident Command Structure in planning, training, and exercising for emergencies; includes annual respirator fit testing.
6. Works to support the mission of the department and adheres to the core values as described in the most current agency strategic plan. 
7. Responsible to know and practice the Safety Policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
8. Performs other duties as assigned consistent with job classification.
 
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Bachelor’s Degree in a health promotion or health sciences related field required. Community-based leadership experience desired. Possession of a valid driver’s license, as well as a licensed and insured automobile are required; or other means of reliable transportation immediately available to candidate.
